From Ariel, Director of Coffee at Little Waves, “Instagram as I was searching for more Latinx folks in the coffee industry to follow. Karla’s passion for producing coffee and re-imagining what pricing coffee looks like really resonated with me. I loved seeing a young, female-identifying person out in the world choosing to work in coffee at the production level and amplify the work it takes to produce, quality, sustainable coffee while also advocating for fair prices for all coffee. “This year, we have the honor and privilege to feature coffee from Carlos Boza’s sister, Maritza Boza. Her practices, vision, and mission on her farm Finca San José align with that of the Boza family on their San Antonio Amatepec Farm. We loved what we tasted at the cupping table when selecting this beautiful naturally processed Red Bourbon: fig jam, rum cake, and cinnamon in a sweet, juicy cup!

About this relationship:

This is our 2nd going on 3rd (2022 harvest) year offering coffee from their family and I hope to make this a lasting relationship as long as they want to continue working with us. I started following Karla Boza through Instagram as I was searching for more Latinx folks in the coffee industry to follow.

More about the Boza family:

The Bozas have been producing coffee with the environment and community in mind since 1969. The Boza family’s farm is located in San Salvador’s volcanic hills and is run by Carlos Boza alongside his three daughters, Alexandra, Daniella, and Karla. They’re committed to innovating to bring consumers better coffee, to pushing our industry forward, and to opening paths for newcomers to our industry. Their farm has been certified by Rainforest Alliance and is a member of IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance) and the Denomination of Origin Bálsamo Quezaltepec, which makes their coffee fully traceable and unique to their region.

About Little Waves:

“Little Waves Coffee Roasters is an impact-driven group of thinkers, dreamers, and doers who delight in the enduring power of coffee as a shared experience. By making small, determined reverberations through sourcing, roasting, and brewing, we add our open-hearted energy to the tides that unconceal and uphold the beauty of coffee and life. We are small and independently owned and operated, quality, service, and heart-driven, Latina co-owned, women-forward, and our team is comprised of people of different cultures, genders, languages, faiths, and beliefs.

With every decision we make, we work to honor people, places, cultures, and histories. We integrate personal narratives into our spaces and offerings in an effort to help our guests and clients feel more connected to us on a human level. We name our roasts and drinks after places that inspire wonder, have cultural significance, and after people and places that we love. Every act is an invitation to connect, and we are fueled by the joy we get from cultivating health and wonder with the world around us.”
